Soccer boys top El Mo, Elsie

Basketball, wrestling have weather cancellations|

The Sonoma Valley High soccer Dragons are sporting a 2-0 Sonoma County League record after beating El Molino and Elsie Allen to open their SCL season.

The Dragons beat El Molino 5-0 on Jan. 3, as senior Freddy Ramirez and junior Fabian Osegura scored first-half goals while Juan Zarate, senior Beto Napoles and Ramirez scored second-half goals. Ramirez also had two assists, while Osegura, Zarate and Napoles each had an assist.

On Monday, Jan. 9, the Dragons scored a 3-1 win over Elsie Allen as sophomore Ezekial Hermosillo had a pair of goals and senior Diego Larios had one. Larios also chipped in with two assists.

The Dragons faced Petaluma Wednesday, will travel to Piner Saturday for a rare day game as Piner doesn’t have lights. Sonoma will travel to Analy on Tuesday.

Since the Dragons don’t have a home field this year, they’re playing their home games at the Petaluma Sports Fields Complex on East Washington Street. Sonoma does have two games scheduled at Arnold Field this season, a Feb. 1 game against Petaluma and a Feb. 7 game against Analy that’s also senior night.

The weather was responsible for a pair of cancellations this week.

Tuesday, the Dragon boy cagers were supposed to host Petaluma, but since Petaluma players get to away games on their own, the game was postponed with a make up date to be determined later. The Dragon wrestlers were scheduled to have a dual meet with Piner on Wednesday, but that too was cancelled with a date to be determined later. Saturday, the wrestlers host the annual Deets Winslow Memorial Tournament. Action gets under way at 9 a.m.
