The Lady Dragon cagers opened their Sonoma County League schedule Wednesday, beating Healdsburg, 44-34.
Sonoma broke out of the gate taking a 13-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, and held on for a 10-point win.
“It’s a good start to league,” said Dragon Coach Jann Thorpe. “We did a nice job on the boards again tonight.”
Senior Kayla Field had 18 points and three rebounds, senior Alanna Johnston had nine points and nine boards, senior Grace Cutting had nine points and eight boards, sophomore Sydney VonGober, senior Katie Stovall, junior Amy Stovall and sophomore Sofia Vitale each had two points.
“In the third quarter, we had a bit of a slow start and didn’t score until half-way into the quarter,” Thorpe said. “We will continue to work on being consistent with our attack to the basket and finishing inside.
Friday night, in their last tune-up before starting SCL play, the Lady Dragons traveled to Pacifica to take on the Terra Nova Tigers, and came home with a 49-24 win.
“It was a nice win on the road and a good win to finish off the preseason before heading into league,” Thorpe said.

The Lady Dragons have a 9-5 overall record and a 1-0 conference mark.
