Thinclads await Sonoma County League meet Nov. 5|

The Sonoma Valley High cross country girls are undefeated going into the Sonoma County League meet next Saturday.

Wednesday, the girls had seven of the top nine runners in a triangular meet at Maxwell Regional Park with Petaluma and Elsie Allen.

Sonoma scored 20 points, Petaluma had 39 and Elsie had only one runner compete.

The boys finished second to Petaluma. Petaluma scored 20, Sonoma had 35 and Elsie Allen had 85. The junior varsity boys also finished second as Petaluma had 18 points and Sonoma had 38.

Junior Amy Stanfield won the girls race in 17 minutes 47 seconds while sophomore Malia Cashel was third overall (18:12); senior Grace Cutting was fifth (18:45); junior Aliya Blinman was sixth (19:11); senior Maddie Cashel was seventh (19:44); junior Eliza Neeley was eighth (19:52) and junior Trinity McGuiness was ninth (19:55).

“The girls collectively had an outstanding race,” said Coach John Litzenberg.

The girls are 6-0 going into the SCL meet Saturday, Nov. 5, at Spring Lake in Santa Rosa.

In the boys race, Sonoma had five of the top 10 runners with sophomore Justin Cox finishing second, 17 seconds behind the winner, a Petaluma runner, in 15:35. Senior Leo Macedonio was sixth (15:59); senior Brandon Barmore was eighth (16:34); junior Jeremy Mackling was ninth (16:39, freshman Kahlil Villas was 10th (16:48); and senior Alex Epstein was 11th (16:57).

Only the top five scores count.

“Overall our guys put in a good effort, with several personal bests being achieved on our course today,” said Litzenberg.

The boys record is 3-3.
