Tennis girls take down Analy

SCL tournament starts Thursday|

The Sonoma Valley High girls tennis team on Tuesday made the most of their final match before the Sonoma County League meet next week, beating first-place Analy 4-3.

The Lady Dragons took two of the four singles matches and two of the three doubles matches.

Singles winners included number two, senior Isabel Hernandez beating Analy’s Alma Meckler-Pacheco, 4-6, 6-2 and 6-3, and number three, senior Anita Scheiblich topping Analy’s Isabel Katz, 7-5 and 6-3. Sonoma’s number one singles player, senior Sydney Moore lost to Analy’s Jade Wright, 6-0 and 6-0, while number four sophomore Audrey Castillo fell to Analy’s Marion Hall-Zazuetta, 6-3 and 6-1.

In doubles play, Sonoma’s number two team of junior Christina Golubovich and sophomore Lizza Moore defeated Analy’s Danny Acosta and Ava Whiteman, 7-2, 2-6 and 6-3; and the number three team of junior Hannah Chun and freshman Olivia Weisiger beat Analy’s Aliya Goldstein and Kai Brem, 6-2 and 6-4. Sonoma’s number one doubles team of junior Sarah Kiser and junior Acacia Schow lost to Analy’s Karah Bengs and Gianna Saisfeild, 6-2 and 6-2.

The win gives the Lady Dragons an 8-3 Sonoma County League record.

The SCL tournament starts Thursday, Oct. 27, at Santa Rosa Junior College. Lady Dragon coach Mary Kate Dreyer can take two singles players and two doubles teams to the tourney. Dreyer said that Sydney Moore and Hernandez would play singles while the teams of Kiser and Schow, and Golubovich and Lizza Moore would play doubles. It’s a single-elimination tournament.
