Tennis girls, ?golfers both fall to Petaluma

Tennis will honor seniors at today's match|

Petaluma avenged an earlier defeat at the hands of the Lady Dragon tennis team, winning Thursday, 4-3.

Senior Isabel Hernandez, playing at number two singles, beat Petaluma’s Erika Gilmore, 6-1, 6-7 and 6-3 for Sonoma’s only singles win. At number one, Petaluma’s Grace Davis beat senior Sydney Moore 6-1 and 6-3. At number three, Petaluma’s Alaisa Barone topped senior Anita Scheblich, 6-1 and 8-6. And at number four singles, Petaluma’s Christina Lang defeated sophomore Audrey Castillo, 6-3 and 6-1.

Sonoma got doubles wins at number one and number three. The number one team of junior Christina Golubovich and sophomore Lizza Moore beat Petaluma’s Mary Manzano and Brooke Simons, 7-5, 6-7 and 7-6; and the number three team of junior Lynsey Lee and senior Nayeli Echeverria topped Petaluma’s Claire Allen and Jordon Zajon, 5-7, 6-1 and 6-1. Sonoma’s number two team of junior Hannah Chun and freshman Olivia Weisiger lost to Petaluma’s Annie O’Neil and Frid Brox 6-0 and 6-4.

The loss drops the Lady Dragons to a 7-4 overall record, and a 7-3 Sonoma county League record. Sonoma finishes out its league season today, Tuesday, Oct. 18, when they host Analy. It’s also senior night, so the seniors will be honored before the 3:30 p.m. match. The Sonoma County League tournament will be held Thursday, Oct. 27, through Saturday, Oct. 29, at Santa Rosa Junior College. Times will be announced later.

Golfers compete in SCL tourney

The Sonoma Valley High girl golfers lost their last match of the regular season on Thursday, falling to Petaluma 276-351. For the Lady Dragons, sophomore Ivy O’Donnell shot a 67, sophomore Sammie Pencil shot a 68, freshman Sabrina Baker shot a 70, freshman Allison Toscano shot a 71, sophomore Bella Martin carded a 75 while sophomore Jackie Torres shot a 79.

For Petaluma, Sarah Jane Catarozoli shot a 45, Lilly Catarozoli shot a 48, Olivia Zimmerman had 56, Kalea Howe carded a 59 and Jenna Silacci shot a 68.

Only the top five scores count. The Lady Dragons played in the Sonoma County League tournament Monday with El Molino hosting. Results not available at press time.
