Soccer girls shut out Elsie

Seventh shut-out of the season for Lady Dragons|

The Sonoma Valley High girls soccer team recorded its seventh shut-out Thursday beating Elsie Allen 6-0.

Sonoma scored three times in the first half and added three more in the second half. Sophomore Jessica Haro had two goals while senior Allana Johnston, juniors Amy Stanfield and Jensen Hedley and freshman Ella Sutter each had a goal.

In the second half, Coach Mike Verdu moved some of his players around, letting them play different positions.

“We tried to let them have a little fun and at the same time, take a look at the younger girls in positions they might play next season,” he said. “Elsie is a struggling program so we tried to do the right thing, but at the same time we wanted to use the game as a learning experience for the younger players.”

The win gives the Lady Dragons a 9-5-2 overall record, and a 7-1-1 record in Sonoma County League play.

Today, Tuesday, Oct. 18, the Lady Dragons travel to Piner for a 4 p.m. game. And they host Healdsburg next Tuesday, Oct. 25.

The Lady Dragons senior night game against Analy at Arnold Field, originally scheduled for Oct. 20, has been moved to Thursday, Oct. 27.

Analy is undefeated and is in first place in the SCL. Game time is 7 p.m.
