Sonoma spikers hammer El Molino

Lady Dragons in first place in SCL action|

The Lady Dragon spikers, who are undefeated in Sonoma County League play, solidified their grip on the top spot Thursday, beating El Molino 3-1.

The scores were 25-17, 25-10, 24-26 and 25-22.

Sonoma handled the Lions easily in the first two sets. But the Lions took an early lead in the third set and led by as many as six points. Trailing 12-16, junior Emily Gonzalez suffered a knee injury and was lost for the rest of the night.

El Molino stretched the lead to 18-23, but the Lady Dragons put on a burst and took a one-point lead at 24-23. Then the Lions came back and tied the game at 24 before scoring the last two points for their win.

Sonoma eked out a 25-22 win in the fourth game to put the match away.

The Lady Dragons have only lost three sets in Sonoma County League play. They’re 10-0 in league and 15-6 overall.

Sonoma travels to Analy today, Tuesday, Oct. 18, before finishing off the league season Thursday hosting Healdsburg.

Thursday is also senior night and the five seniors, Quinn Cordero, Shelby Decker, Kayla Field, Jenna Mak and Anna Stava, will be honored before the match. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
