Stallions take Babe Ruth title

Topped Moose, 6-1, in title game|

The Stallions won the 2016 Sonoma Babe Ruth championship title last weekend.

The top four teams from the regular season entered a single elimination playoff tournament to decide the league champion.

After the dust settled on the regular season, the Stallions and the Moose both ended up with identical records of 10-3 to tie for the regular season title, with the Cubs (8-5) and Rotary (7-6) rounding out the top four.

In the first round of the playoffs, the Stallions beat the Cubs 6-1 to advance to the championship game against the Moose who also advanced by beating Rotary 9-2.

In a fitting showdown of two teams that ended the regular season with the best records, the stage was set.

The Stallions got on the board early scoring two runs in the top of the first; that would end up being all they would need as Giovanni Hernandez pitched a gem, firing a complete game one-hitter as the Stallions cruised to a 6-1 victory to claim the 2016 Championship.

The champion Stallions include Brady Armitage, Ricardo Cab, Elias Casolla, Carsten Cuda, Nolan Dunkle, Giovanni Hernandez, Loren Irving, Myles Irving, Gavin Koler, Will Natuzzi, Evan Raffaini, Kahlil Villias-Martini, Satchel Sevanau and Matt White. Curt Dunkle was the manager and coaches were Johnny Armitage, Luke Dunkle and Jim Hess.

The runner-up Moose include Justin Alire, Dominic Chiotti, Jason Chiotti, Rishi Clark, Max Handron, Clayton Kiser, Logan Mak, Joseph Maranec, Jacob Melendez, Dusty Pierce, Jamie Pierce, Tucker Pierce and Denton Shields. The manager is John Casey and the coaches are Kenny Amoroso and Steve Chiotti.
