Lady Dragons tame the Tigers

Analy had outscored Sonoma 27-0 this year|

The Lady Dragon softball team got some revenge Wednesday when they beat Analy 4-0 in the Sonoma County League Tournament.

The Tigers had dominated the Lady Dragons in their two regular season meetings beating them 7-0 and 20-0.

Sonoma scored in the first inning on an RBI by Maddie Lentini and held on to a 1-0 lead until the fifth, when they pushed three more runs across; Isabel Hernandez, Lyndsey Lee and Lentini had key hits. Lee had two of Sonoma’s five hits and drove in a run.

Lady Dragon Coach Dean Merrill told the Press Democrat that he made some changes. “We moved around our defense, we were more aggressive at the plate and we used a pitcher (Hayden Pearce) that Analy hadn’t seen this season. Plus, we played with passion,” he said.

Merrill praised Pearce, who scattered four hits, saying that she did a great job with ball movement.

He also told the team to be more aggressive at the plate.

“In the other two games, we weren’t aggressive on the first pitch and most of the time, those pitches were strikes,” he said. “It worked much better for us.”

The win gives the Lady Dragons a 16-9 record, and put them in the SCL championship game Thursday afternoon against Petaluma, results not available at press time.
