Lady Dragon thinclads tied for SCL lead

SCL meet on May 14 to decide champs; boys are third|

Kiara Miles won three events and Amy Stanfield won two as the Sonoma Valley High girls track team won a triangular meet Wednesday against Petaluma and Elsie Allen.

Sonoma had 86 points, Petaluma had 81 and Elsie Allen had 2.

The Dragon boys, despite getting three wins from Noah Bartolome, finished second as Petaluma had 103 points to Sonoma’s 52 and Elsie Allen’s 12.

Coach Linda Patterson said the girls are in a three-way tie for first with Piner and Petaluma in the Sonoma County League while the boys are in third place.

“The SCL meet at Piner on May 14 will decide the SCL champ,” Patterson said. “We beat Petaluma but lost to Piner, while Petaluma beat Piner.”

Wednesday, the Lady Dragons took nine firsts including Miles in the 100 hurdles, 100 and 200; Stanfield in the 400 and 800; Grace Cutting in the 300 hurdles; Emma Maggioncalda in the high jump; Isabel Garon in the pole vault; and the 4x400 relay team of Hannah Ford-Monroe, Stanfield, Cutting and Trinity McGuinness.

The Lady Dragons got seconds from the 4x100 relay team; Stanfield in the 1,600; Ford-Monroe in the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdles; McGuinness in the 400; Ellie Bon in the shot and Julie Hart in the discus. Sonoma got thirds from Maddie Libbey in the 1,600 and 3,200; Maggioncalda in the 100 and 200; Alsy Howard in the discus; Cristina Golubovich in the long jump and Garon in the triple jump. And they got fourths from Eliza Neely in the 800; Maddiy Cashel in the 3,200; Hart in the shot; Garon in the long jump and Nashielly Canestas in the pole vault.

On the boys’ side, Bartolome won the 100 hurdles, the 300 hurdles and the 400. They also got firsts from Justin Cox in the 1,600; Travis Claeys in the 3,200 and the 4X400 relay team of Andrew Powers, Alonzo Heredia, Cox and James Reed.

The Dragons got seconds from the 4x100 relay team; Heredia in the 400; Reed in the 100 and 200; and Nico Sloop in the triple jump. They got thirds from Max Houghton in the long jump; Sam Zyskowski in the triple jump and Sloop in the high jump. And the Dragons got fourths from Claeys in the 1,600 and Sloop in the long jump.

The thinclads are off until Thursday, May 12, when they have the preliminaries for the SCL meet at Piner. The SCL finals will be Saturday, May 14, at Piner. Field events start at 9 a.m. while track events start at 10. The top six competitors in each event at the SCL meet will move on to the NCS meet May 21, also at Piner.
