Boys first, girls second at SCL swim meet

Won’t know until Saturday if anyone qualifies for NCS|

The Sonoma Valley High boys swim Dragons came back from Friday’s Sonoma County League meet with a championship, while the girls had a strong second-place finish.

“The boys won by 68 points,” said a proud coach Jane Hansen. “The girls took a strong second. We’re coming for them (Analy) next year.”

The boys won their meet with 438 points. Analy was second with 374 points, Petaluma was third with 228, Healdsburg was fourth with 211, Piner fifth with 169 and El Molino was sixth with 142.

On the girls side, Analy won the meet with 510 points while Sonoma was second with 451 points. El Molino was third with 266, Healdsburg was fourth with 229, Petaluma was fifth with 215 and Piner was sixth with 108.

The Sonoma boys came out of the blocks fast taking the 200-meter medley relay race, with Ethan Smith, Jack Lewis, Nathaniel Silva and Dominic Tommasi winning by better than six seconds over Analy. The Dragons, with Tommasi, Smith, Owen Summers and Lewis, also won the 400 freestyle relay.

“The last relay was amazing,” said Hansen. “Analy and our team were so close the whole race and Jack Lewis went in to the final leg with few second cushion against Analy’s best swimmer, Jack Murphy. Murphy charged hard and it came down to .11 of a second at the finish.”

Tommasi and Lewis picked up individual wins for the Dragons – Tommasi in the 100 butterfly and Lewis in the 100 breaststroke.

The Dragons picked up seconds with Tommasi in the 200 IM; Smith in the 100 free and Summers in the 100 breaststroke. Sonoma picked up thirds from Jackson Mighell in the 200 free; and Lewis in the 50 free.

The girls picked up a win from the 400 freestyle relay team of Hannah Ladouceur, Abby Parr, Maya Grajczyk and Cameron Taggesell.

Ladouceur picked up a first in the 200 freestyle and Grajczyk in the 100 breaststroke. Sonoma got seconds from its 200 medley relay team of Ladouceur, Taggesell, Grajczyk and Parr. The Lady Dragons got a second from Parr in the 50 freestyle, and thirds from Taggesell in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, Parr in the 100 freestyle and Ladouceur in the 100 back.

The Dragons won’t know until this coming weekend whether any of their times qualifies them for the North Coast Section Meet, May 13 and 14 in Concord.
