Softball girls swamp El Molino

Girls overwhelm El Mo, boys fall to San Marin|

The Lady Dragon softball team whipped El Molino, 17-6, Tuesday while the boys baseball team lost in a non-conference game to San Marin, 6-3 on Wednesday.

At El Molino, the girls trailed 2-0 after the first inning, but came back to tie the game in their half of the second. The Lady Dragons took the lead for good in the top of the fourth when they plated five runs to take a 7-3 lead.

Sonoma put the game away in the top of the fifth when they scored 10 times to put an early end to the game because of the 10-run rule.

Sonoma pounded out 17 hits including three by Bella Fanucchi and three doubles by Lyndsey Lee while Malena Mackey and Maddie Lentini each had two hits. Lee had four RBI while Fanucchi, Lentini and Mackey each had two RBIs.

Jenna Ebert was the winning pitcher.

The win gives Sonoma a 12-6 overall record and a 5-2 Sonoma County League mark. The Lady Dragons hosted Analy Thursday, results not available at press time. Sonoma travels to Elsie Allen Tuesday before returning home next Thursday, May 5, to face Piner for senior night.

Wednesday night, the boys outhit San Marin 7-4, but lost 6-3 as wild pitches and passed balls took their toll.

San Marin struck first using two hits and a walk to plate three runs in the top of the first.

Sonoma got on the board in the bottom of the third as Mac Scott singled and both Nico DeTorres and Ethan Vitale reached on errors loading the bases. Scott scored when Carson Snyder grounded out to the second baseman, but that was all the Dragons could manage.

With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Dylan Samaniego singles as did Scott. DeTorres walked loading the bases, but the Dragons couldn’t push anything across.

San Marin scored three more times in the top of the fifth on two walks, two hits and two wild pitches and took a 6-1 lead.

Needing five to tie and six to win, the Dragons tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh. Vitale and Shane O’Malley scored, but that was all the Dragons could muster in a 6-3 loss.

The loss drops the Dragons to 9-10 overall.

Sonoma is back in action tonight, Friday, April 29, as they host Elsie Allen at Arnold Field. Game time is 7 p.m.
