With their qualifying performances at last Saturday’s North Coast Section Division-3 races in Hayward, Sonoma Valley High School cross-country standouts senior Travis Claeys and sophomore Amy Stanfield earned the rare opportunity to run against California’s best in the sport.

Claeys and Stanfield will compete in the prestigious CIF state boys and girls cross-country Division-3 championship meets at Woodward Park in Fresno tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 28.

After leading the Lady Dragons to their second straight Sonoma County League title, Stanfield became only the second-ever Sonoma girl after Sara Jakel to reach the girls state meet with her NCS Division-3 ninth-place finish.

Claeys, only the third Dragon boy to ever reach state following Alex Conner and his Sonoma head coach John Litzenberg, is running his final prep race on the heels of his 11th-place finish in the NCS Division-3 boys meet.
