Lady Dragons rip Healdsburg in SCL tourney

Defending NCS champ Sonoma spikers await seeding for D3 playoffs|

Having wrapped up the Sonoma County League regular-season title for their fifth straight SCL crown with 11 straight wins, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity volleyball girls got their postseason off to a roaring start as the top seed in the annual SCL Tournament.

In Tuesday night’s league tourney opener at Pfeiffer Gym, the top-seeded Lady Dragons came out determined and with a competitive fire that drove them to three set-sweeping scores of 25-13, 25-15, 25-9 en route to their 3-0 rout of fourth-seeded Healdsburg.

Leading the Sonoma spikers past the visiting Greyhound girls were junior Jenna Mak’s 12 digs and eight kills; sophomore Layla Schoeningh’s 12 assists, six digs and four kills; senior Courtney Cogbill’s nine assists; junior Kiara Miles’ eight kills and six digs; senior Carlie Vollert’s six digs and four kills; senior Sami Von Gober and junior Kayla Field’s four digs each; and sophomore Reagan Cordero’s four assists.

The Lady Dragons hosted third-seeded Petaluma, an opening round winner over second-seeded Analy, in last night’s SCL Tourney championship clash (results not available at presstime). They begin defense of their prestigious North Coast Section Division-3 title Sunday, with the NCS seeding meeting set for Nov. 8.
