Sonoma Valley High soccer boys, girls both hammer Healdsburg ‘Hounds

While the Sonoma Valley High School varsity soccer boys have been racking up the goals en route to an unbeaten start to the Sonoma County League season, the varsity soccer girls have been relying on their solid defense and goal-tending as the offense has struggled to score. That is, until Tuesday night at Arnold Field.

The Lady Dragons hosted SCL foe Healdsburg and wasted no time in taking complete control of the match as their offense vented its frustration by opening up the scoring gates and flooding the visitors with two waves of goals, scoring five times in the first half and tallying three more after the break for a rousing 8-1 victory.

Leading Sonoma’s surging offensive attack were senior Mia Vanoni’s two goals, and one goal each by seniors Annie Greenslade and Brianda Prudente; junior Alanna Johnston; sophomores Ellie Bon and Lyndsey Lee; and freshman Vanessa Ramirez.

Speaking of the Sonoma varsity soccer boys’ highly productive offense, it struck again multiple times in Healdsburg Tuesday night and fueled another big win in the balanced and competitive SCL.

With league parity at its highest in years, the Dragons faced their fifth straight tough SCL foe and, for the fifth consecutive match, turned up the offsensive heat and peppered Healdsburg for goals that stamped a 4-2 road victory and 5-0 record.

Leading Sonoma’s unbeaten boys past the Greyhounds were senior Edwin Reyes’ one goal and one assist; one goal each by senior Eduardo Hernandez, junior Beto Nápoles and sophomore Tony Tellez; and juniors Diego Larios and Freddy Ramírez’s one assist apiece.

The first-place Dragons host SCL foe El Molino at 4 p.m. today on the high school field, before traveling for a league rematch with defending champion Petaluma on Monday, Oct. 5, at Durst Field.
