Cubs sweep Babe Ruth NL titles

Warriors claim AL playoffs crown, all-stars begin Friday|

On the heels of claiming the Sonoma Valley Babe Ruth Baseball’s National League regular-season crown, the top-seeded Cubs were successful defending the playoffs champion title by beating the third-seeded Moose 7-6 on Sunday at Arnold Field to make it a clean title sweep.

In Friday’s opening round of the playoffs, the Cubs upended the fourth-seeded Rotary 5-3, while on Saturday, the Moose defeated the second-seeded Colts 9-3.

The Sonoma Babe Ruth National League regular-season and playoffs champion Cubs – directed by manager Justin Garrett and coaches Mario Alioto and Joe Lunny – consisted of Trent Garrett, Tyler Garrett, Cole Gregory, Mathew Hart, Brendan Hogan, Nazir Lyle, Kole Morgan, John Murray, Claude Pepe, Tanner Rozema and Samuel Zyskowski.

Comprising the runner-up third-seeded Moose – directed by manager John Casey and coaches Kenny Amoroso and Ed Hawkins – were Justin Alire, Jason Chiotti, Dominic Chiotti, Maxwell Handron, Sam Little, Logan Mak, Colton Mertens, Tucker Pierce, Justin Ring, Joseph Sangiacomo, Denton Shields.

Sonoma’s Babe Ruth Baseball all-star teams will be announced this week and then open the District-2 tournaments on Friday, July 3.

In Sunday’s Sonoma Babe Ruth American League playoffs final at Arnold Field the third-seeded Warriors stunned the regular-season champion and top-seeded A’s with a 12-0 shutout upset win to capture the title.

The Warriors reached the playoffs finale by eliminating the second-seeded Bears in Saturday’s opening round, while the A’s ousted the fourth-seeded Lumberjacks on Friday.

Comprising the Sonoma Babe Ruth American League regular- playoffs champion third-seeded Warriors – directed by manager Charles Tolbert and coach Richard Nunex – were David Bosshard, Nolan Dunkle, Dom Fiorito, Kody Garcia, Miles Garon, Ian Harvey, Loren Irving, Elijah Lakritz, Ricky Mendoza, Samuel Nunez, Christian Soto, Alexander Sperry and Nick Weber.

The Sonoma Babe Ruth American League regular-season champion and playoffs runner-up A’s – directed by manager Benny Sotto and coaches Jeff Buttke and Marcus Trotta – consisted of Chris Berger, Sean Buttke, Cole Gregory, Reed Hewitt, Kyle Hoffman, Claude Pepe, Noe Pizano, Angelo Robledo, Tanner Rozema, Jordan Salmonsen, Angel Tapia, Alexander Trotta and Trevor Velarde.
