Babe Ruth playoffs start, title games Sunday

With the Sonoma Valley Babe Ruth Baseball’s National and American leagues’ regular seasons in the books, it’s playoffs time, with both postseason league tournaments Arnold Field beginning tonight and continuing tomorrow, Saturday, June 27, and concluding with the title games on Sunday, June 28.|

In tonight’s National League playoffs opener, the regular-season champion and top-seeded Cubs play the fourth-seeded Rotary at 7:30 p.m., with the second-seeded Colts facing the third-seeded Moose in first-round action at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The National League championship game takes place at 6 p.m. on Sunday, and the Cubs, as the top seed, have to lose twice to be denied the playoffs title, with a possible second title showdown set for Monday, June 29.

Comprising the Sonoma Babe Ruth National League regular-season champion and top-seeded Cubs – directed by manager Justin Garrett and coaches Mario Alioto and Joe Lunny – are Trent Garrett, Tyler Garrett, Cole Gregory, Mathew Hart, Brendan Hogan, Nazir Lyle, Kole Morgan, John Murray, Claude Pepe, Tanner Rozema and Samuel Zyskowski.

The second-seeded Colts – directed by manager Manny Alcantar and coach Benny Soto – consist of Austin Arrington, Eric Bailey, Julian Benthin, Corbin Cook, Quinton Cuellar, Cameron Hill, Timothy O’Sullivan, Wyatt Pomeroy, Angelo Robledo, Alexander Sperry and Trevor Velarde.

Comprising the third-seeded Moose – directed by manager John Casey and coaches Kenny Amoroso and Ed Hawkins – are Justin Alire, Jason Chiotti, Dominic Chiotti, Maxwell Handron, Sam Little, Logan Mak, Colton Mertens, Tucker Pierce, Justin Ring, Joseph Sangiacomo and Denton Shields.

The fourth-seeded Rotary – directed by manager Lonnie Oaks and coaches Richie Garcia and Gary Garcia – consists of Andrew Beatty, Samuel Fannucchi, Dom Fiorito, Elijah Fucile, Kody Garcia, Carlos Hernandez, Matthew Norrbom, Dylan Samaniego, Jadon Summers, Asher Sutter and Ethan Vitale.

Tonight’s Sonoma Babe Ruth American League playoffs opening-round 5 p.m. matchup has the top-seeded A’s facing the fourth-seeded Lumberjacks, with the second-seeded Bears playing the third-seeded Warriors in a 3 p.m. first-round game on Saturday.

The American League playoffs championship game is at 3 p.m. Sunday, with the top-seed A’s having to lose twice to be denied the crown, with a possible second title clash also set for Monday.
