Putting their rough preseason behind them, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity baseball boys found their groove at just the right time by starting the Sonoma County League season with four straight victories to stand unbeaten and alone atop the standings.

The Sonoma boys took an early 1-0 lead over the Prospectors that turned into a 5-0 advantage midway through the fifth inning en route to Yankovich earning the win with seven strong innings, scattering seven hits, yielding no earned runs, striking out eight and walking just one.

Leading Sonoma’s offensive charge were senior CJ Vitale’s three-for-four, including a double, two runs scored and an RBI; junior Maclean Meyn’s double and two RBIs; sophomore Shane O’Malley’s double and run; Yankovich’s single, RBI and run; sophomore Ethan Vitale’s single and RBI; senior Kyle Garcia’s single and run; junior Nico DeTorres and sophomore Carson Snyder’s single each; senior Abel Fragoza’s RBI; and junior Spencer McNairy’s run.
