Dragon boy golfers nipped at SGC by visiting El Mo|

In their second straight Sonoma County League match with one of their longest SCL rivals, the Sonoma Valley High School tennis boys traveled to Petaluma on Wednesday and served up another victory with a 7-0 shutout of the Trojans.

Leading the Dragons’ rout in singles play were senior Caleb Horowitz’s 6-0, 4-2 (retired) over Kevin Cox at No. 1 singles; sophomore Matt McKale’s 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 over Jason Metter at No. 2 singles; senior James McKale’s 6-2, 6-4 over Nathan Wong at No. 3 singles; and senior Sam Sondheim’s 6-3, 6-1 over Alex Wolf at No. 4 singles.

Sonoma was led in doubles by junior Dylan Bearg and sophomore Liam Handron’s 6-1, 6-2 over Zach Leno and Dimitri Papag at No. 1 doubles; senior Luke Vaughn and junior Ian Bon’s 4-6, 7-6, 11-9 over Sam Rosloff and Adam Volk at No. 2 doubles; and junior Miles Pimentel and sophomore Elias Sosa’s 6-4, 6-2 over Hayden Dennis and Kohl Demsher at No. 3 doubles.

The Dragon netters faced visiting defending champion Analy yesterday – results not available at presstime – with both teams entering their third showdown tied for first place after splitting their first two matches.

It was another close SCL decision for Sonoma’s golfing boys that, unfortunately, didn’t go their way, again.

Playing through Tuesday afternoon’s rain and hail showers at the Sonoma Golf Club, the Dragons got a season-best round from Brett Sullivan, with fellow seniors Christian Ballard and Cyle Caselli each finishing just one stroke behind him, but they were still edged 225-230 by visiting El Molino.

Pacing Sonoma were Sullivan’s nine-hole round of 43, followed by Ballard and Caselli’s 44 each, senior Jake Randuch’s 47, and senior Austin Dunn’s 52.

The Dragon golfers traveled to Santa Rosa yesterday to face league foe Piner – results not available at presstime – and will compete in the annual Ukiah Tournament on Monday, April 13.
