Dragons stun defending champ Analy

Sonoma wins with 6-run 2nd, ?Yankovich 4-hitter, hosts Petaluma tonight|

After the Sonoma Valley High School varsity baseball boys opened their Sonoma County League season at home last Friday with junior right-hander Maclean Meyn firing a 10-run rule, five-inning perfect game win over Elsie Allen, they traveled to Sebastopol on Wednesday to face the defending champion.

Originally scheduled for Tuesday before rain pushed the game back a day, the Dragons erupted with a six-run second inning. Left-handed pitching ace Max Yankovich made the most of the early lead with solid complete-game outing which ended in a 6-1 victory over longtime SCL rival Analy.

Yankovich handcuffed the Tigers with a seven-inning effort scattering four hits for the win, yielding only one earned run, while striking out one and walking two.

Sonoma’s offense was led by junior Niko DeTorres’ two-for-three with one RBI and one run scored; sophomore Carson Snyder’s single, two RBIs and a run; senior Kyle Garcia’s double and run; Yankovich’s single and RBI; senior CJ Vitale and sophomore Shane O’Malley’s single and run each; and sophomore Ethan Vitale’s run.

With the two wins to start the league season, the Dragons will host another longtime SCL rival, Petaluma, at 7 p.m. tonight under the Arnold Field lights.
