Sonoma tennis boys shutdown Healdsburg ’Hounds

Dragon boy golfers fall short to Analy|

Coming off their spring break, the Sonoma Valley High School tennis boys looked sharp and efficient in remaining a Sonoma County League co-leader by shutting Healdsburg down and out with a 7-0 demolishing last Thursday at the high school courts.

In singles play, the Dragons were led by senior Caleb Horowitz’s 6-0, 6-3 over Patrick Doran at No. 1 singles; sophomore Matt McKale’s 6-1, 6-0 over Andrew Egan at No. 2 singles; senior James McKale’s 6-1, 6-0 over Norman Leighty at No. 3 singles; and senior Sam Sondheim’s 6-0, 6-0 over Parker Brem at No. 4 singles.

Leading Sonoma’s doubles pairs past the visiting Greyhounds were junior Dylan Bearg and sophomore Liam Handron’s 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 over Robby Schieffer and Tommy Schieffer at No. 1 doubles; senior Luke Vaughn and junior Ian Bon’s 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 over Zach Lienart and Juan Carlos Garcia at No. 2 doubles; and junior Miles Pimental and sophomore Elias Sosa’s 6-4, 6-1 over Teo Tomerlin and Elmer Paz at No. 3 doubles.

The Dragons play at Petaluma today, then host fellow frontrunner Analy to begin the third and final round of league play at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, at the high school courts.

For the second straight SCL road outing, the Sonoma Valley High School boy golfers were edged in a closely contested dual-match.

Following a 227-240 loss to rival Petaluma at the Adobe Creek course earlier in the week, the Dragons ended up dropping a 219-239 decision to another longtime league foe, undefeated first-place Analy (4-0), last Thursday at the Santa Rosa Country Club.

Sonoma (2-2) was paced by senior Christian Ballard’s nine-hole round of 44, seniors Austin Dunn and Jake Randuch’s 48 each, senior Brett Sullivan’s 49 and senior Cyle Caselli’s 50.

The Dragons host El Molino in a 3:30 p.m. SCL match today at the Sonoma Golf Club, before traveling to traveling to Santa Rosa to face league foe Piner on Thursday, April 9.
