Von Gober, Cutting achieve athletic history

Sonoma duo on girls hoops, cross-country, volleyball title teams|

When the Sonoma Valley High School varsity basketball girls recently made school history by winning their first outright Sonoma County League title in 31 years, two of the Lady Dragon players shared historic personal achievements as members of back-to-back championship teams.

After the Sonoma varsity hoops girls claimed the SCL crown, junior Sami Von Gober and sophomore Grace Cutting accomplished the first-time feat of being key members on two teams that won outright fall and winter season titles in the same year.

As the defensive player of the year, Von Gober not only helped the Lady Dragons win the SCL hoops outright title, but she was an all-league standout instrumental in the Sonoma varsity volleyball girls capturing the league’s outright crown, and then winning the coveted North Coast Section Division-3 championship.

Also earning all-league status, Cutting assisted the Lady Dragon cagers in snaring the outright SCL title after being a productive runner for the outright league-champion Sonoma cross-country girls’ team.

With both girls returning to their respective defending champion fall teams, and then to their winter-season defending champion hoops squad, there could be more personal history to be made.
