Sonoma swimmers start SCL strong

Dragon teams swamp ?Healdsburg, ?Jensen earns NCS consideration|

Taking early control of their Sonoma County League dual-meet seasons openers last Thursday at the Sonoma Aquatic Center pool, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity boys and girls’ swim teams surged past Healdsburg for pair of one-sided wins.

With freshman standout Quinn Jensen showing her talent in the pool after using her legs to help win a girls’ cross-country title, the Lady Dragons defeated Healdsburg 116-51, while the Sonoma boys beat the the visiting Greyhounds 109-47.

Leading the Sonoma girls with event wins were the 200-yard medley relay team of Jensen, junior Natalie Baker and frosh Hannah Ladouceur and Grace Turner in 2 minutes, 4.4 seconds; Jensen’s 50 and 100 freestyle in 25.4 seconds – a North Coast Section consideration time – and 57.3, respectively; Ladouceur’s 100 backstroke in 1:07.7; senior Amanda Gillion’s 500 free in 6:30.9; and sophomore Cameron Taggesell’s 100 breast-stroke in 1:19.5.

The Dragon boy event winners included 200 medley relay team of juniors Cian Lacy Jack Lewis and Max Shepard, and frosh Dominic Tommasi in 1:54.3; Lacy’s 50 and 100 free in 24.4 and 56.5, respectively; Lewis’ 100 breast in 1:11.6; Tommasi’s 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley in 1:01.2, and 200 individual medley in 2:17.9; and senior Rick Taggesell’s 200 free in 2:05.9.

Sonoma’s boys and girls swim teams – coached by Jane Hansen and Keith Ryan – are currently on spring break and return to the pool on Thursday, April 2, when they face Justin-Siena at Napa Valley College.
