Lady Dragons edged at Encinal

Sonoma baseball boys host Acalanes tonight, Eureka ?noon Saturday|

It was a good pitching and hitting day for senior Hannah Herrick, but, unfortunately, she didn’t get a lot of support and the Sonoma Valley High School varsity softball girls dropped a 3-1 nonleague decision to a good Encinal team Tuesday afternoon in Alameda.

After a scoreless three innings, Encinal scored twice in the bottom of the fourth and added a run in the sixth, while the Lady Dragons attempted a top-of-the-seventh rally, but could plate only one run.

In the pitcher’s circle, Herrick took the loss despite scattering six hits and yielding just one earned run, while striking out five and walking two.

At the plate, Herrick went three-for-three, including a triple and an RBI; and sophomore Hayden Pearce had Sonoma’s other hit, singling and scoring the lone run.

The Lady Dragons continue their long nonleague road trip, having played at Cardinal Newman yesterday – results not available at presstime – competing in a four-team round-robin in Rincon Valley hosted by Maria Carrillo and including strong East Bay foes Pinole and Salesian tomorrow, Saturday, March 21.
