Murphy’s, R&B leaders in men’s Benny hoops

Heading into the final holiday break of the 2014-15 season, R&B Custom Builders and Murphy’s Irish Pub are tied at the top of the Sonoma Valley Men’s Recreational Basketball’s Jack Benny (39-and-over) Sunday Night League standings at the five-game mark of the 15-game schedule.

The Jack Benny men’s league action returns on Sunday, Jan. 4, at the Altimira Middle School gym.

Both Murphy’s and R&B boast 4-1 first-place records, followed in second place by hot-playing Heffernan Insurance Brokers’ 3-2, Patt’s Copy World and defending champion La Salette’s 2-3 each, and VOM Fire’s 0-5.

In games played on Dec. 14, Murphy’s Irish Pub toppled R&B Custom Builders 75-46, led by Jeff Kellogg’s game-high 21 points, Ryan Tunheim’s 18 with four treys, Jamie Svanda’s 16, Beni Comma’s 12, Steve Mellinger’s six and Jon Malinkowski’s two. R&B was paced by Jesse Long’s 15 points, Gary MacKinnon’s 14, Al Martinson’s eight, Ron Hall’s six and Danny Dwyer’s three.

Heffernan Insurance Brokers upended La Salette 75-49, led by Joe Neely and Gus Halter’s game-high-tying 20 points apiece, Pete Ahern’s 11, Kevin Jaggie and Brian Stephenson’s eight each, and Steve Matuszak’s six. Pacing La Salette were Marc Traverso’s game-high-tying 20 points, Mike Kellison’s 13, Madison Lott’s 10, Kim Batchelder’s five and Don Fowler’s one.

Patts Copy World doused VOM Fire 51-40, led by Joe Geist’s game-high 23 points with three treys, Sean Norris’ 13, Mark Fidler’s seven, Dave Studdert and Jeremy Lawson’s six apiece, and Scott Summers’ two. VOM was paced by Pat Neely’s 19 points, Sean Lacy’s nine, Pat Dudy’s seven, Sean Daly’s three and Matt Ingersoll’s two.

On Dec. 7, Murphy’s Irish Pub nipped La Salette 60-58, led by Kellogg’s game-high 31 points with four treys, Tunheim’s 12 with three treys, Comma’s nine and Svanda’s eight. Pacing La Salette were Kellison’s 23 points with four treys, Batchelder’s 14, Traverso’s 11, Kenton Lewis’ six and Mike Glasbrenner’s two.

R&B Custom Builders edged Patt’s Copy World 57-52, led by Chris Nufo’s game-high 22 points with four treys, Victor Ganz 11, Martinson’s 10, MacKinnon’s six, Hall’s five and Dwyer’s three. Patt’s was paced by Norris’ 17 points, Luis Campos 15 with four treys, Geist’s 10, and Studdert and Summers’ four each.

Heffernan Insurance Brokers downed VOM Fire 61-49, led by Jaggie’s game-high 27 points, Devin Ajax’s 15 with three treys, Stephenson’s 10, Ahern’s seven and Matuszak’s two. Pacing the Fire were Neely’s 23 points, Gary Johnson’s 10, Ingersoll’s six, and Lacy and Edwin Hidalgo’s five apiece.
