Alexis Garcia’s senior season wrestling for the Valley’s Archbishop Hanna High School is off to an impressive start.

After winning Archbishop Hanna’s first-ever North Coast Section medal with his seventh-place finish at last season’s North Coast Section championships, Garcia officially began his 2014-15 season competing in Saturday’s annual Green and Gold Tournament at San Marin in Novato and earned himself another honor.

Garcia went undefeated in all three of his matches at 138 pounds for a first-place finish and a gold medal, but he also was named the most outstanding lightweight of the tourney.

Along with Garcia, Archbishop Hanna’s young wrestling team – directed by head coach David Montano and assistant coaches Nick Evanson and Seth Thorton – consists of senior Andrew Franceschini; juniors Jesus Cornejo, Kyle Griffith, Roberto Rivera and Thomas Smith; sophomores Christian Carrillo and Bronson Katsanes; and freshmen Cameron Black, Kris Houghting and James Logan.
