Sonoma Valley Library hosts summer programs

The Sonoma Valley Regional Library’s Summer Reading Program, “Fizz, Boom, Read!” now under way, continues through Friday, Aug. 1 for preschoolers, grade-schoolers and teens.

During the eight weeks of “Fizz, Boom, Read!” kids will receive incentive prizes to encourage them to keep reading during the summer break from school. The library will also offer programs for extra fun at the library.

Children between the ages of 6 to 11 track their reading progress on log sheets and return to the library to receive weekly prizes. Family and friends may read to children who aren’t reading, yet. Teens earn points by reading books, attending programs and completing library-related activities. Participating teens will be entered into a raffle to win a Kindle. Registration is free and on-going through the duration of the program.

Children’s Librarian, Clare O’Brien, said, “It’s going to be a great summer here at the library. There’s a lot of fun to be had, so don’t miss out.”

Storytimes for children ages 0 to 3 will be held every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and for children ages 3 to 6, at 11:30.

The program for children ages 5 to 11 will be 11 a.m. Wednesdays while programs for teens will be Wednesday afternoons.

The Summer Reading Program is made possible with financial support from the Sonoma County Library Foundation and the Sonoma Valley Friends of the Library. All programs are free and open to the public.

The library is located at 755 W. Napa St., Sonoma.
