In the wake of Tuesday’s rainout, another classic Sonoma County League showdown between two longtime SCL rivals took place on Wednesday in Petaluma and Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity baseball boys got a solid pitching performance from all-league senior ace Jimmy Flatt.
But in return for his six-inning, four-hit outing, Flatt didn’t receive offensive support, and defensive lapses led to a couple of unearned runs as the visiting Dragons, who managed only a single run on three hits, dropped an anemic 2-1 decision to Petaluma.
After routing Elsie Allen in the SCL opener, it was the second straight league loss for Sonoma, which was paced by senior Vinny Albano’s single and run scored while Flatt and junior CJ Vitale each had a single.
The Dragons will try and shake their offensive woes when they host SCL foe Piner tonight, Friday, at 7 p.m. under the Arnold Field lights, before playing two league games next week. The Dragons will travel to Healdsburg on Tuesday, April 8, then return home hosting El Molino on Friday, April 11.
