Sonoma tennis girls finally break Analy win spell

With one final make-up match putting the wraps on their Sonoma County League dual-match season, the Sonoma Valley High School tennis girls turned in one of their best team outings of the campaign and finally broke an eight-year losing streak to one of their longest SCL rivals.

After splitting the four singles matches, the Lady Dragons won two-of-three in doubles en route to snapping Analy's win spell with a 4-3 victory last Thursday at the high school courts.

In splitting the two-match series with the visiting Tigers, the Sonoma girls end up tying them for SCL second place, behind champion Petaluma, with 9-3 league records each.

Next up are the postseason SCL singles and double tournaments, which start at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30, on the Santa Rosa Junior College courts.

Sonoma seniors Cecilia Montano and Hanna Lemaire will be competing in the SCL singles tourney, with teammates seniors Stephanie Angulo and Annie Morgan, and juniors Brenda Maldonado and Emma Stanfield will play in the doubles event.

Winning matches for the Lady Dragons in their victory over Analy were Lemaire’s 6-4, 6-2 over Hillary Brennan at No. 2 singles; Stanfield’s 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 over Alya Bohr at No. 3 singles; junior Hannah Adams and sophomore Sydney Moore’s 6-4, 6-4 over Shania Harsono and Quiana Stodder at No. 2 doubles; and Morgan and junior Alison Gray’s 6-3, 6-4 over Giana Sarsfield and Alma Meckler-Pacheco at No. 3 doubles.

Sustaining Sonoma's losses were Montano’s 6-3, 0-6, 1-6 to Jade Wight at No. 1 singles; Maldonado’s 3-6, 2-6 to Kate Stewart at No. 4 singles; and senior Isabel Hernandez and sophomore Kasey Richards’ 6-3, 0-6, 4-6 to Allegra Diamond and Hannah Caruso at No. 1 doubles.
