Sonoma sweeps in soccer, girls tennis; golfers, netters hosting

Stepping up in their Sonoma County League matches, Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity soccer boys’ and girls’ teams and the tennis girls’ squad registered shutout wins at home and on the SCL road.

Sonoma’s soccer boys – who have a bye Wednesday, Sept. 25, and then host longtime league rival Petaluma at 4 p.m. on the high school field this Friday, Sept. 27 – traveled to Forestville on Friday and blanked SCL foe El Molino 2-0 behind two goals by senior Alejandro Echeverría off an assist each by seniors Zack Thompson and Anthony García.

Last Thursday at the high school field, the soccer Lady Dragons shut down and shut out visiting El Molino for a 3-0 victory behind junior goalie Christen Silkey and her supporting defenders, and a goal each by senior Maria Hawing off a free kick, and junior Emily Miller and freshman Annile Lilienthal.

Sonoma’s soccer girls have a bye today and will then host longtime SCL foe Petaluma at 4 p.m. on the Hanna Boys Center’s new field on Arnold Drive at Agua Caliente Road this Thursday, Sept. 26.

Also posting a shutout were the tennis Lady Dragons – they host league rival Healdsburg at 3:30 p.m. today on the high school courts – who traveled to Santa Rosa on Thursday and dominated SCL foe Elsie Allen for a 7-0 victory.

Leading the Sonoma tennis girls were junior Cecilia Montano’s 6-3, 6-2 over Elizabeth Pham at No. 1 singles; junior Hanna Lemaire’s 6-0, 6-0 over Maria Soto at No. 2 singles; senior Michelle Stovall’s 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Karina Soto at No. 3 singles; junior Annie Morgan’s 6-0, 6-0 over Lizette Vega at No. 4 singles; senior Ava Gonzales’ and sophomore Brenda Maldonado’s 6-1, 6-1 over Melissa Ruiz and Janni Martinez at No. 1 doubles; junior Stephanie Angulo’s and sophomore Alison Gray’s 6-0, 6-0 over Janet Vicente and Cassy Carapia at No. 2 doubles; and senior Samantha Richards and freshman Sydney Moore’s 6-0, 6-0 over Jamiette Arango and Leslie Bradley at No. 3 doubles.

Sonoma’s golfing girls host SCL foes El Molino and Analy at 3:30 p.m. on the Sonoma Golf Club course today and this Thursday, Sept. 26, respectively.
