Sonoma soccer teams tame ’Hounds

While the Sonoma Valley High School varsity soccer boys’ and girls’ defenses assisted their goalkeepers in protecting their end of the field, the offenses stormed Sonoma County League foe Healdsburg’s goal areas and found the net with multiple shots that led to a pair of convincing wins.

On Tuesday at the high school field, the Lady Dragons dominated their match en route to a 7-1 rout of visiting Healdsburg and were led by junior goalie Christen Silkey and the defense; freshman Annile Lilienthal’s two goals; and a goal each by senior Ellen Angeloni, juniors Shelley Marmaduke and Emily Miller, and sophomores Bella Bollman and Bridget Vanoni.

Sonoma’s soccer boys hit the SCL road on Wednesday and also dominated play in taking a 2-1 halftime advantage and then adding a second-half goal for a 3-1 victory over the Greyhounds.

Leading the Dragons, who play SCL rival El Molino in Forestville today, were a goal apiece by seniors Alejandro Echeverría, Brian Ruiz and sophomore Edwin Reyes, with Ruiz and senior Paco Martínez adding assists.
