Sonoma soccer teams pound Prospectors

Both Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity soccer boys and girls' teams turned in dominating team efforts en route to sweeping Sonoma County League victories over Piner.

On Wednesday night under the Arnold Field lights, the Lady Dragons rebounded from their 5-0 loss to SCL unbeaten first-place Analy by controlling their SCL match with visiting Piner from start to finish.

With the defense, led by senior goalie Christen Silkey, keeping the visiting Prospectors in check, five Sonoma girls found the net in a one-sided 6-1 win.

Leading the Lady Dragons’ offense were senior Monica Ramirez's two goals scored, and one goal each tallied by seniors Shelley Marmaduke and Rian Verdu, junior Mia Vanoni, and freshman Amy Stanfield.

The Sonoma girls host SCL foe Healdsburg in their home finale at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, under the Arnold Field lights, and will honor their seniors before the match begins.

The Sonoma boys, who played visiting Analy yesterday – results not available at presstime – host two matches next week, with Healdsburg coming to town for a 4 p.m. clash on Tuesday, Oct. 21, followed by El Molino, which arrives for the Dragons' home finale at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, under the Arnold Field lights.
