Sonoma soccer boys nip Lobos, tennis girls level Lions

In a key Sonoma County League midseason showdown Wednesday night in Santa Rosa, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity soccer boys and a good Elsie Allen team engaged in a fast-paced, full-match battle.

When the dust cleared, the Dragons had managed to outlast visiting Elsie Allen, with senior Paco Martínez’s second-half goal the difference in their hard-earned 1-0 victory, which kept them close on the tail of front-running defending champion Analy in the race for the SCL crown.

Sonoma’s boys host another tough SCL foe, Piner, at 4 p.m. today on the high school field, while the varsity soccer girls, who played visiting Piner yesterday – results not available at presstime – will host longtime league rival Analy at 4 p.m. this Tuesday, Oct. 8, on the high school field.
