Sonoma runners host SCL openers

In their final warm-up before opening their Sonoma County League dual season, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity cross-country teams competed against Analy in its Ragle Relays on the Ragle Ranch course in Sebastopol last Wednesday and swept both the 5.3-mile boys and girls' races, as well as the coed race.

The Dragon boy and girl runners will next host longtime league rivals Healdsburg and Petaluma in an SCL-opening tri-meet at 4 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the 2.7-mile Maxwell Farms Regional Park course.

Sonoma's varsity boys and girls' water polo teams hosted Marin County Athletic League foe San Marin in their home openers at the Sonoma Aquatic Center pool last Thursday and dropped a pair of close decisions.

The Sonoma boys, edged 10-5 by the Mustangs, were paced by junior Cian Lacy's two goals scored, and a goal each by senior Adam Curry, junior Jack Lewis and sophomore Jackson Mighell.

Pacing the Lady Dragons with a goal apiece in their 13-5 loss to San Marin were senior Amanda Ramponi, junior Natalie Baker, sophomore Cameron Taggesell, and freshmen Heather Durfee and Erica McIntosh.

In the junior varsity boys match, the Dragon jayees topped San Marin 8-6, led by junior Jacob Paine's two goals, and a goal eachy by sophomores Cameron Baker, Luke Severson and Noah White, and frosh Dominic Tommasi.

The Sonoma water polo squads travel to league opponent Terra Linda today, before hosting Novato starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, at SAC.
