SONOMA RACEWAY’S POPULAR Wednesday Night Drags and drift program begins its 26th season on Wednesday, March 5. The Valley raceway’s 2014 Big O Tires major events schedule will open with the Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival on May 17 and 18, followed by the popular NASCAR Toyota/Save Mart 350 weekend taking place Friday through Sunday, June 20 to 22: the annual NHRA Sonoma Nationals the weekend of July 25 through 27, preceded by the NHRA Division 7 Drag Races July 18 through 20; the IndyCar Series, featuring the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma, set for the weekend of Aug. 22 through 24; the FIA World Touring Car Championship, which has been moved up a weekend to Sept. 13 and 14; and the Classic Sports Racing Group Charity Challenge on Oct. 4 and 5. SONOMA VALLEY YOUTH Football and Cheer Junior Dragons begin online registration for grid ages 6-to-12-years-old, and cheerleaders ages 5-to-12 – the season runs from July through November – tomorrow, March 1, at sonomajrdragons.net. SONOMA COUNTY ALLIANCE is offering free soccer clinics – under the direction of high school varsity coaches, Sonoma County Sol players and high-level Bay Area youth coaches – for all Valley age groups on back-to-back Wednesdays, March 5 and 12, starting at 6 p.m. on the Sonoma Developmental Center’s fields in Glen Ellen. VALLEY OF THE MOON Soccer Club is holding a soccer clinic and registration for ages 5-to-16-years-old on Saturday, March 15, with the free clinic running from 10 a.m. to noon, and sign-ups being held all day, at Larson Park on DeChene Avenue in Boyes Hot Springs.

 

SONOMA BOCCE BALL Association will begin its 12 spring leagues on Sunday, March 30, and is taking sign-ups for new and existing members wanting to play in 2014, with openings in the Monday morning league. SONOMA VALLEY BABE Ruth Baseball Association is still holding registration for all players 13-to-15-years-old on or before April 30, as well as accepting letters of intent, including a resumé of coaching experience, to manage or coach during the 2014 season, with letters forwarded to S.V.B.R., P.O. 2113, Sonoma, CA 95476. NORCAL ACADEMY BASKETBALL for girls in fourth-through-11th grades are taking sign-ups through March 9, and will hold skill development sessions twice a week beginning March 10, with tryouts for a competitive traveling team also being held.
