Sonoma Raceway hosts charity-themed weekend

Sonoma Raceway will be the weekend scene for two annual charity events.

Drag-racing fans will be going head-to-head against racers from the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series at the 12th annual NHRA Tour de Charity taking place tomorrow, Saturday, March 22, on the Valley raceway’s kart track.

The Tour de Charity is hosted by Speedway Children’s Charities, which is the charitable arm of Sonoma Raceway, and all the proceeds benefit Sonoma County youth groups. For more information on this event, contact Cheri Plattner at 933-3950 or cplattner@racesonoma.com.

Sonoma Raceway is hosting another 24 Hours of LeMons one-of-a-kind endurance race for $500 cars on the wine country road course starting tomorrow, Saturday, March 22, and concluding Sunday, March 23, with a portion of the proceeds also benefitting Speedway Children’s Charities.

All cars participating in the LeMons event must be bought and prepared for no more than $500, with RVs going toe-to-toe with Porsches and Pintos battling BMWs, as drivers and crews dress to fit the theme, and winners receive cash prizes in sacks of nickels.

The weekend will feature racing from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, with spectator tickets purchased at the gate costing $30-a-day and kids ages 16-years-old-and-under are admitted free.
