Bouncing back from being swept in their Sonoma County League tri-meet opener, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity track and field girls, sparked by sophomore Isabel Garon’s school-record effort, did the sweeping on Wednesday in Santa Rosa, where they defeated host Piner 91-55 and blanked Elsie Allen 91-0.

Unfortunately, Sonoma’s varsity boy thinclads finished their SCL tri-meet falling to Piner 93-57, while beating Elsie Allen 57-15.

Leading the event winners for the triumphant Lady Dragons were Garon’s girls’ school record-setting pole vault of 9 feet, 9 inches and long-jump first-place finish at 15-6; the victorious 400-meter relay team of seniors Ellen Angeloni, Brittany Daly and Maren Peterson, and freshman Kiara Miles in 52.08 seconds; the winning 1,600 relay team of senior Devin Bacon, sophomores Lilyanna Carranza and Bridget Vanoni, and freshman Hannah Ford-Monroe in 4 minutes, 50 seconds; Carranza’s 400 first place in 65.8; Daly’s 300 hurdles first in 54.9; Miles’ 100 and 200 firsts in 13.3 and 27.7, respectively; and senior Sachi Spaulding’s high-jump first at 4-6.

The event winners for the Dragon boys were sophomore Edwin Reyes’ 200 and 400 first places in 24.1 and 51.6, respectively; senior Owen Ljung’s 800 first in 2:01.3; and junior Ben Andrews-Amarantes’ pole-vault first at 11-0.

Both the Dragon boys and girls’ varsity teams will travel to Sebastopol on Wednesday, April 30, to face longtime rival Analy in SCL dual-meets.
