Sonoma girls sweep tennis, golf

Both Sonoma Valley High School’s girls’ golf and tennis teams were triumphant in their Sonoma County League clashes with over-matched Elsie Allen squads at home and on the road, respectively, last Thursday.

Actually, it wasn’t even a match at the Sonoma Golf Club, with Elsie Allen not participating, while the Lady Dragons played out their round for a nine-hole 300 score, led by freshman Ali Declercq’s 51, junior Anna DeSmet’s 57, frosh Candice Silkey’s 60, junior Callie Hogan’s 61, and junior Isabel Garon’s 71.

The Sonoma girl golfers hosted yesterday’s SCL championship tournament at the Oakmont East Golf Course in Santa Rosa, with the results not available at presstime.

Leading the Lady Dragons in doubles were senior Annie Morgan and junior Alison Gray’s 6-0, 6-1 over Jacqui Pineda and Melissa Ruiz at No. 1 doubles; senior Stephanie Angulo and junior Olivia Yazzolino’s 7-5, 6-2 over Geo Flores and Jenny Martinez at No. 2 doubles; and junior Hannah Adams and sophomore Sydney Moore's 6-0, 6-0 over Janet Vicente and Casey Carapia at No. 3 doubles.

Sonoma's girl netters host Healdsburg in their SCL finale at 3:30 p.m. on the high school courts, and, in a pre-match ceremony, will honor their seniors, including Angulo, Lemaire, Montano, Morgan, Isabel Hernandez and Jaqueline Herrera.

The Lady Dragons will then host Analy in an SCL makeup match at 3:30 p.m. on the high school courts.
