Sonoma girl netters blank El Mo, but golfers edged

Both the Sonoma Valley High School girls’ tennis and golf teams battled Sonoma County League foe El Molino last Thursday and came away with a rousing home victory and heartbreaking road loss, respectively.

For the second time in their SCL meetings, Sonoma’s tennis girls served up a 7-0 shutout of El Molino, led in singles play by senior Cecilia Montano’s 6-0, 6-0 over Erin Eck at No. 1 singles; senior Hanna Lemaire’s 6-1, 6-0 over Joy Risleg at No. 2 singles; junior Emma Stanfield’s 6-0, 6-3 over Miete Kringen at No. 3 singles; and junior Brenda Maldonado’s 6-4, 6-3 over Grace Kan at No. 4 singles.

Leading the Lady Dragons in doubles were senior Annie Morgan and junior Alison Gray’s 6-3, 6-2 over Maddie Richards and Savannah Harrison at No. 1 doubles; senior Isabel Hernandez and sophomore Kasey Richards’ 6-0, 6-1 over Julia Weggenmann and Sami Hennen at No. 2 doubles; and senior Stephanie Angulo and junior Olivia Yazzolino’s 6-2, 6-1 over Jessica Ramalia and Lilly Anderson at No. 3 doubles.

The Sonoma netters hit the SCL road for matches at Piner in Santa Rosa today, and at longtime rival Petaluma on Thursday, Oct. 9.

At the Northwoods Golf Course in Monte Rio, the Sonoma girl golfers got a co-medalist performance from freshman Alexandra Declercq, but were still edged 290-303 by El Molino.

Pacing the Lady Dragons were Declercq’s standout nine-hole tied best round of 53, frosh Candice Silkey’s 61, junior Isabel Garon’s 62, junior Callie Hogan’s 63, and frosh Hannah Ladouceur’s 64.

The Sonoma golfers are also on the SCL road this week, playing Analy in Sebastopol today, and competing in Healdsburg Thursday, Oct. 9.
