Sonoma firefighters host open house on Sunday

The Sonoma Valley Firefighters Association will be holding its annual open house and pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at the Sonoma Valley Fire Station 1, at 630 Second St. W.

The open house has been a tradition that Sonoma has had for many years. Families will find the day very educational and entertaining.

There will be firefighting demonstrations, fire engine rides and safety training and information. For the kids, it’s an opportunity to show of their Halloween costume. Children 12 years and younger can participate in a costume contest at 11 a.m. and everyone who participates will receive a prize.

Uniformed fire department personnel and their families will be present to answer questions, give tours of the station and apparatus. This year, there will also be blood pressure screenings and eye exams. All proceeds will go towards purchasing and upgrading life saving and fire suppression equipment.
