Sonoma Community Center hosts Brown, Acker exhibits

The Sonoma Community Center’s Gallery 212 is hosting an exhibition by ceramics artist Sarah Brown and photo-collage watercolor artist Michael Acker through Aug. 29.

There will be an artist reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1.

Brown, a Napa native, has a studio in Glen Ellen and until recently served as ceramic department technician at the Sonoma Community Center.

“I see my work as both sculptural and functional. I strive to make my pieces comfortable and inviting to use.I love to cook and take so much joy in using a pot that makes the food look better and allows the pot to be a part of the community of the table” Brown said.

Acker currently on staff at SCC, is well known for his unique watercolor collages depicting local historical buildings and streets, most notably of Highway 12 in the “Springs.” “I am excited to have this opportunity to display my new work utilizing historical video and books,” Acker said.

The exhibit is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the community center, 276 E. Napa St., Sonoma.
