The new Common Core State Standards will greatly increase the amount of non-fiction that students read in classrooms K-12. Several Sonoma classrooms are tackling this standard by reading newspapers and some are even publishing their own school newspapers. Pictured are Katherine Krantz’s Altimira Middle School eighth graders (Manny Chavez and David Neumann) who were recently reading, summarizing and presenting articles from The Sonoma Index-Tribune to their classmates.
