Sonoma Aquatic Center masters swim nationals

After youth swimmers from the Sonoma Sea Dragons competed in the Pacific Swimming Regional championships, the Sonoma Aquatic Center was represented by four adult masters swimmers who participated in the recent United States Masters Spring Short Course National Swimming Championships in Santa Clara.

The four Valley over-18-years-old division athletes from the SAC's masters swimming program who swam at the George Haines International Swim Center were Chris Bost, Lisa Dorman, Keith Ryan and SAC owner and coach Jane Hansen.

Racing against some of the best adult swimmers in the U.S., and the world – including Nathan Adrian, the 2012 Olympic 100-yard freestyle gold medalist, who tied the American record in the 100 free in 41.08 seconds; and 48-year-old Matt Biondi, who swam an eye-opening 46-second 100 free – SAC masters coach Ryan turned in an impressive overall performance.

Ryan, who's also a Sea Dragons' assistant coach, posted a 200 backstroke first-place finish in his 30-to-34-year-old age group with a time of 2 minutes, 00.72 seconds; two second places in the 400 individual medley and 200 butterfly in 4:14.73) and 1:59.93, respectivley; and a third in the 500 free in 4:52.95.

“Keith (Ryan) recently moved to this area from Southern California and has been a great addition to both our masters program and our youth swim team,” said Hansen. “He’s a great role model for all of us and shows that hard work does pay off.”

The SAC's Dorman earned an age-group 50 free fourth place in 25.7, and Bost was ninth in his age group 200 free in 1:55.88.
