Relentless Giants on verge of WS title 3

What a wild World Series weekend at AT&T Park in the “City by the Bay,” and for all you San Francisco fans who were screaming mad, dejected and had given up hope of an almost unbelievable third WS title in five years after zero MLB championships in 52 years, and there were a lot of you, admit it, well, shame on you.

These are the 2014 Giants who are proving that this is their championship decade.

After dropping Friday’s 3-2 decision to the Kansas City Royals and their untouchable three-headed bullpen in their opener at home to be two games to one behind in the WS, there seemed to be a cloud of doom unleashed by the not-total-believers that, along with real rain clouds, hovered over the park Saturday.

And when the Giants were down 4-1 in Saturday’s pivotal WS game four, with the KC fireball relievers ready to practically slam the door shut on SF’s title three-peat, the negative energy started to permeate around the park, into the city streets, cell phones, TVs, computers, radios and throughout Northern California and beyond.

But, remember, these are the 2014 Giants who are proving that this is their championship decade and they unleashed an offensive onslaught, with a WS record 11 batters getting hits, and SF’s bullpen doing the “shutdown” in a rousing 11-4 series-tying victory.

Then came Sunday and the crucial fifth game, with a win putting either SF or KC just one triumph away from the WS title, and the 2014 Giants showed more proof that this is their championship decade by telling their bullpen to take the night off, because Madison Bumgarner was on the mound.

With MadBum firing, spinning and weaving his pitching magic and making WS history as one of the best big-game pitchers of all time, at the young age of 25, along the way, the Giants were victorious and, with two games left in KC, only need one win to complete their amazing title three-peat.

Hopefully, the WS clinching victory comes tonight in game six.

But if the Royals win, then it’ll all come down to Wednesday’s dramatic game seven and the belief, determination, resilience and that dose of luck which drives their unrelenting spirit will push the Giants over the WS-winning threshold for the third time.

Just FYI – the Golden State Warriors begin their 2014-15 season Wednesday night and, hopefully, the Giants have their WS3 title and we’re free to watch the “Dubs.”

But if there’s a game seven tomorrow, let’s get those DVRs ready, because there’s no way to watch both teams at the same time without missing crucial moments that, even though you’re recording them, you need to stay in the moment with one of the teams, which, of course, would be the Giants.

As for the Warriors, yes, I, and many other longtime fans, have high expectations because they look so darn good, with talent, size, athleticism, depth, speed, coaching and front office smarts.

Sure they have to get it done on the court, but they have such a solid positive team dynamic that the “Dubs” will be getting it done over the long haul of the season and into the playoffs, where they will be loudly heard
