‘Real Deal’ rock at Sebastiani Theatre

SUSU brings its rough sound to Sonoma next Friday.|

It seems like the active nightlife of downtown Sonoma will be taken rather abruptly to a new level next Friday, April 22. Local promoter Jocelyn Simone, in conjunction with the Sebastiani Theatre, is bringing in a troupe of rockers based in New York City, and Sonoma may never be the same.

Billed as SUSU, with the tag line “An Evening of Real Deal Rock and Roll,” the band features two sensational singers and a smoldering band. Liza Colby and Kia Warren are the front women of this show. Colby has been tearing up the East Coast in her “Liza Colby Sound” combo and Warren has been fronting the “Revel in Dimes” band. Their styles sync up nicely, in a high energy and raucous way.

Their supporting band, known collectively as “Dry Clean Only,” features Joey Wunch on guitar, Ronnie Bruno playing drums and Connor McClelland on bass.

Videos available on the internet indicate that the performance will fall somewhere between the Ike and Tine Turner Review and the Sex Pistols, with a hint of ZZ Top blues and nary a drop of Vegas polish. This is rough stuff. Consider yourself about to be slapped.

Opening the show will be “Wingo Moon,” a band talented local musicians. Comprised of Jr. Boogie, T-Luke, Codi Binkley, Matt Piazza, Dan Martin and Zakk Murphy, Wingo Moon represents a second generation of Sonoma musicians. Each of the band members, save Piazza, can boast that their fathers played – or still play – music, good music, in this town. The band will deliver a solid Sonoma sound, one that represents the next wave in the Valley of the Tunes.

The show starts at 7:30. Tickets for this show should be obtained in advance, as there ain’t no missin’ this one.
