Readers’ hosts Hill’s foodie book club

Readers’ Books has formed a new food-oriented book club to be presided over by local food maven, Kathleen Hill. The first meeting will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29.

In addition to her career as a writer, journalist, teacher and political activist, Hill was privileged to be a close associate of the legendary food writer M.F.K. Fisher. Hill has also enjoyed a long and colorful tour of her own in the food universe. She is a board member of Les Dames d'Escoffier, an active member of the Culinary Historians of New York and the Culinary Historians of Southern California; she is a member of La Chaine des Rotisseurs, a former culinary director and a current presenter of the Sonoma International Film Festival’s food and wine films, curator of the Kathleen Thompson Hill Culinary Collection, host of “The Kathleen Hill Show” on KSVY, and the food and wine editor and columnist for the Sonoma Index-Tribune.

The Last Wednesday Food Group Book Club, which will be held at Readers’ Books, 130 E. Napa St. in Sonoma, on, appropriately, the last Wednesday of every month, will focus on both a new cook book or food book and participants will pair it with an older book to better understand how nutrition, eating and food preparation have changed over time. On occasion, volunteers will prepare sample dishes from the cook books under consideration. The Last Wednesday Food Group is open to all.
