Raymond William Jasek

Raymond William Jasek, 88, passed away peacefully at home in Sonoma on Dec. 17, 2013, surrounded by his family.

Ray was born in Chicago, Ill., on Nov. 21, 1925, to Ella and Frank Jasek. He was the youngest of five children.

While attending Proviso East High School, Ray tested and qualified for the Navy V-12 program. He trained at St. Lawrence and Cornell universities and was commissioned as an officer on June 1, 1945. Using the G.I. Bill, Ray continued his college studies at the University of Illinois and graduated with a degree in business. He was the first person in his family to graduate from college.

Ray loved to play tennis, ski and fish. He was a member of the Tiburon Men’s Chorus, a little league coach and an usher at St. Hilary’s Church. Ray also enjoyed participating in current events discussion classes. He was a member of Sons in Retirement, serving as the “Big Sir” for a term. But most of all, Ray loved spending time with his family –

especially his grandchildren.

Ray is survived by his wife of 59 years, June; son, Tom Jasek (Mary) of Menlo Park; daughter, Janet Jasek Beach (Stuart) of Grass Valley; and son, Paul Jasek of Rough and Ready; grandchildren, Dana, Laura, and Robert Jasek, Kelly and Sabrina Beach and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Ray’s life is planned for Jan. 19, 2014, from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Vintage House, 264 First St. E., Sonoma.
