Race-a-cop at Sonoma Raceway Wednesday
Area high school students will drag-race against Bay Area law enforcement officers this week when the popular Top the Cops™ program returns as part of Sonoma Raceway’s weekly Wednesday Night Drags.
The program, which enters its 22nd season this year, offers an alternative to illegal street racing and gives teens the chance to race against law enforcement officers, who compete in full uniform in their official vehicles on the quarter-mile drag strip.
It also provides an environment for officers to talk with teens about safe driving and the rules of the road.
The eight participating law enforcement agencies include the City of Sonoma Police Dept., Sonoma County Sheriff’s Dept., California Highway Patrol, and the Petaluma Police Dept. among others.
The event will be held Wednesday, April 13, with practice runs starting at 4 p.m. and racing from 5 to 8 p.m.
Sonoma Raceway is located at Highways 37 and 121 in Sonoma. For more information, visit www.sonomaraceway.com/wnd
