A public forum for comment on the Trust Act will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, as part of the regularly scheduled Commission on Human Rights meeting.
In 2013, the state of California passed legislation commonly known as the Trust Act that gives county sheriffs discretion regarding whether or not to hold people on immigration detainers issued by the federal government.
Sonoma County Sheriff Steve Freitas has conducted preliminary meetings with several individuals and groups to create a temporary policy regarding his implementation of the Trust Act. The Sheriff is seeking input from anyone in the community who may want to participate in the creation of the Sheriff’s Office policy. This public meeting will also provide a transparent process for community interaction with the Sheriff as this policy is developed.
The meeting will be held in the public hearing room at the Permit and Resource Management Department (PRMD), 2550 Ventura Avenue, Santa Rosa.
