PTOs receive checks, school supplies

PTO presidents from schools across the Valley stopped by the farmers market in mid-September to receive $1,500 checks from the proceeds of the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation’s recent Red & White Ball. Also receiving checks were Hanna Boys Center, Sonoma Valley Teen Services and the high school Earth Club.

The annual tradition is one way of thanking the schools for the volunteers they provide who work the event each year, explained Laura Zimmerman, executive director of SVEF. The PTO presidents were also each handed a big bag of school supplies, courtesy of the Bank of Marin. The bank organized a document shredding event the morning of the ball at which the community could shred documents for free in exchange for a donation of back-to-school supplies.

Lani Gullotta, Prestwood PTO co-president said, “The Ed Foundation not only provides money to support our efforts in the classroom and extra enrichment, but reminds us that we have an incredible town that recognizes the value of investing in the education of Sonoma’s youth.”
